Welcome to #WeekendWisdom number 35. This week we’re going to talk about an update to the return to work safely protocol.

https://www.l2cybersecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/WeekendWisdom-035-lo.mp4

Why was there a need to change the Return to Work Safely Protocol?

I discussed this in #WeekendWisdom number 28. Also in great detail with Phillipa Jane Farley on the Breaking Bad Data Protection Practices webinar in late May. The return to work safely protocol had big gaps in regards to data protection. Last Friday the Data Protection Commission, in conjunction with the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation they produced a data protection update which I’ll just summarise here.

Contact tracing logs

The first item was in regards to contact tracing logs. These are to be put in place where employees are working in close proximity with each other for extended periods of time. These logs should be used to facilitate the HSE tracing procedure. Also as a memory aid for the employees. The employer should not use these logs for any other purposes whatsoever.

Return to work form

The second item was the return to work form. This is a form that employees are required to fill out before they return to the work environment. These are only to be used until the employee returns. As soon as they’re back in the work environment, these forms should be disposed of in a secure manner.

Temperature testing

And finally there is temperature testing. Temperature Testing is only to be carried out in line with public health advice and currently there is no public health advice to say that temperature testing should be carried out. So therefore no temperature testing should happen in the work environment.

So that’s it for this week. Let’s be careful out there and we’ll talk to you again next week.
